Humble Pie

I seem to have this thing for food.  It is like I cannot live without it.  Although I carry on like a chook and say I am on a sea food diet (see food and eat it) the truth is I am not a fussy eater.  I even eat my vege’s.  Don’t tell the kids but even after 60 years they do not get any better.
There is one food though I do have trouble digesting.  A person would be forgiven for thinking it is not a problem considering the number of times I have it.  But despite it being commonly consumed I still have trouble with humble pie.
There is nothing like a reality check to show me the true state of affairs.  I must be honest with myself it is down hill from here.  Truth is it was down hill from long ago, but I allowed myself to be deluded.
I found a gap and made a break in touch footy.  It was embarrassing how quickly I was caught by a young fella.  Yuk!  Humble pie.  After no time at all I was totally cactus playing indoor soccer.  The younger ones went on and on and on.  Humble pie again.  Just because I eat a bit of it does not mean I like it even though I know it is good for me.
It is not like there are many things on the menu and humble pie is one of them.  I do not say. “you beauty that is what I want and will have.”  It is more like going out for dinner and what is on the menu is only humble pie.  I will even choose vege’s before that.   But alas it is humble pie or nothing.  Take your pick. 
I will eat it, and when out, even do my best to look like I am enjoying it.  I must admit though it has a bitter taste for me.  I’d rather be having Frankfurt’s or some healthy alternative.  I suppose it is like kids and vege’s.  The only reason I force it down is It is good for me.
There is a good side to humble pie though.  Good for me is good for me.  I know physically I am deteriorating but inside is a different story.  I am getting stronger, and part of the reason is the humble pie I am having.
I know I can have what I like but what I like is not always for my best.  I like ice-cream but if it was all I have I would lack the nutrition I need.  I like chocolate.  Same story.
Humble pie is a part of my diet.  I can have many other things, but I know that even though I do not like the taste, that one does me good.
