Hospital

​We had one of those “out all day” days.  The day went quickly, but when we have a choice, the hospital is not normally our first pick.  Merril and I were there while someone had tests done.  I stayed the night at the persons place to ensure all was well.  If I had one, I am sure I would miss my teddy though.
I found hospital an interesting place to be.  It was great to be able to sit in the canteen.  It’s amazing what I have taken for granted.  I would have never thought sitting down to eat, with others around, would have been something I appreciate so much.
The coffee and food were really good.  I reckon they should be though.  If anywhere was to be an example of good food, it should be a hospital.  I must say though, if a person was not sick before, they would be after they saw the prices.  They probably feel they can set the prices they do, as they generally have a captive audience.  Not as bad as Airports though.  Their pricing is like “Smell of Coffee” $7.  “Watch Someone Else Eat” $5.
I was amazed how many fit looking people were in the hospital.   Reminded me of what our GP said.  When we see people in the shopping centre, we do not know their personal battles.  The hospital reminded me of that.  What I see is often not all there is.  I reckon being physically sick is not the only battle faced.  There are many battles which are known only to the individual going through it, and possibly a few others.
We spent a bit of time in the waiting room.  Chairs were set apart for social (physical) distancing, though there were some “couples” chairs there.  At first, we chose ones near a power point so I could plug in my computer.  I never needed that, so we gravitated to the most comfortable chairs.
The thing was, they were right under the tele so just about everyone was facing us.  I’m not paranoid or nothin, but everyone seemed to be looking in our direction.  In places like that the sound of the tv is often right down, so seeing the pictures is the best a person can hope for.  Not here though.  Everyone could follow everything that was being said.
We decided to go for lunch when the mid-day movie came on.  It was about a white witch.  I could not concentrate on what I was reading.  I can have music playing and work (in this case I was reading), but not the tv.  The movie made me think that having a different label would not change anything.  A scorpion is still a scorpion even if it is labelled a cup cake.  The sting is still in the tail.
I have always found nurses and nursing staff good.  It seems the best nurses have a certain personality type.  I have seen people that said they wanted to be a nurse and thought “you are not a nurse.”  I reckon people need to care to be a nurse.  It is a rare person who can be what they have never exhibited.  Merril was a great nurse.  She cared but was firm (though charging me $50 each time for advice seems a bit much)
Our time there went fast.  At the end of the day we all went home via the takeaway joint.  I went to bed late, but I still got up early.  I am sure it will catch up with me, but for now I feel good.
