I am a mess at the best of times.
It is my custom to visit my brother of a Tuesday and Friday.  On Tuesday’s I have coffee with him.  This morning I had no car as it is being serviced, so Merril gave me a lift over there on her way to work, and I walked back.  It was still dark when I got over there, and we needed light to see.
Definitely nothing remarkable there. It was the walk back where things were different than what I had in mind.  I missed my turn.  I ended up walking three sides of a big block, when I only need have walked one, if I had not missed the turn.  It still only took about 20 minutes.  My admiration for Merril only grew.  She walks for an hour a couple of times a week.
On the walk I like to listen to music via my phone.  Yesterday I spent some time making a new playlist.  I was hoping it worked and it did.  Now that Merril and I are married, I am trying to combine our music.  I think good came out of my missing my turn.  I listened to a song that was Merril’s. Fortunately it only almost brought me to tears. It was called “Letters from war.”
The first verse talks about a mother and son corresponding by letter, with him at war.  The second verse talks about him being captured, and she not knowing if he was dead or alive (the letters stopped).  She continued to write every day.  The third verse talks about him coming home with all her letters in hand.
It was a beautiful story and I am so glad I heard it.  It so reminds me that I need hope.  It is what sustains me.  Some hope is in vain, while some just keeps me going.  Some I can control, while some is out of my hands.
When I want to get from A to B, I do what I can, but what others do is not in my hands.  I saw a cartoon with someone leaning on a car window sill, and he had just been asked how to get from B to A.  His answer was, “most folk want to know how to get the other way.”
A poor girl on the Sunshine Coast met her demise recently.  She was run down by someone.  She was crossing at the crossing.  She did all she could right, but what happened was something she could not control.
It is the positive element of hope that keeps me going.  Ok I don’t know what the future holds, but I make plans in hope.  Mostly it ends up similar to the way I see it.  When it is not, I readjust my plans and again plan in hope.
