Homo Sapian

30/8/2018

I made like a homo sapien today.  I stood upright.  Stooping was definitely more comfortable, but for a while there I really looked the part. I know some people claim they can trace their family tree back to when their ancestors lived in it, but not me.  I’m from a different line.
Apart from that, nothing remarkable happened today.  Unless of course sleep is considered remarkable. For some it is, but it has never been for me.  I need to be careful of the position I am in, when a movie comes on.  If I am in the wrong position, sleep is inevitable.  Merril and I joke about it.  All she needs is a book, and all I need is a movie, and we are pushing up z’s.
Oh one thing remarkable happened today.  Normally, it is not a singing and dancing thing.  Actually there is no singing and dancing now, but on the inside I am excited.  I feel like I can again, climb every mountain, swim every sea.  Well, maybe not, but it feels like a win.
To highlight how quiet today was, the biggest event was, Merril went and got milk.  Ok to some it is a ho hum thing, but not to us.  Sure it is not like we faced imminent death if we did not get it – especially seeing we had what we like to call “pretend milk” in the cupboard.  For us, it meant we did not need to skimp on the milk.  We did not need to say “oh I can’t have Milo, because there is not enough milk.”  We could luxuriate in milk.  We could have Milo and milk, or Wheaties and milk, if we wanted.  We could also have milk and milk if we wanted, though we have never wanted that before.
The other remarkable thing that happened today, was we had someone from New Zealand apply for the Women’s Table Tennis competition.  The wonders of the world wide web.  They must have gone to, and applied, on our club wnttc web site.  Information that was once local, is available to the world now through the www.
Anyway, too much excitement in one day is not good for anyone.  I need to go back to watching the birds quietly foraging.  Why is that snake eating that bird?  Why is that dingo barking at the snake?  Why is there a pack of dingoes’ surrounding the snake?  Ok none of that happened, but if I imagine it vividly enough, maybe it will be real.  Then again, maybe I don’t want to.
