Homeward Bound

Well we are finally home now.  There is no doubt we are older than we were.  We definitely still like to do the same things as we always did.  It is just we do them for a shorter period of time now.  It seems that way less time transpires before the aches and pains take over and I think “I just want to go home.”  Home in this instance being Punt Hill.  Next day all is forgotten and I am ready to tackle the world again.
It probably goes without saying that the flight back was traumatic. Ok, even though it goes without saying I am going to say it anyway.  This won’t take long.  But if it does, please remember to keep your fluids up, and get exercise as needed.
For the take-off and landing, there was the usual tight gripping of the arm rests.  What made it worse though, this time was the cloud and rain.  If we were going to crash, I think I would like to be able to see it all unfold before my eyes.  I would prefer to be able to put it all right in the five seconds I may have available.  Most people I would not be able to put it right with face to face, but I could make peace with myself and my God at least.  I don’t think I would need to make peace with the person in front of me or behind me as I have not done anything to them that I know of.
I have forgiven the person in front of me that wanted to get some shut eye, and used the seat going backwards option.  Of course that is an option, but who would use it when we are already packed in like sardines?  No we are not.  Sardines have it good.  Certainly I can forgive, but I do not know if I can forget needing to use my lap top in a v like formation.
In cloud I have no idea of what is happening.  Having watched a number of episodes of Air Crash Investigation probably had not helped. I remember in Flying High all the people on the plane sitting back and watching a movie.  The movie showed multiple plane crashes.  That sort of thing would definitely not inspire confidence.
The pilot came over the intercom and told the stewardesses to prepare for landing and take their seats.  Three times I thought I heard the landing gear go down.  Trouble was every time there was a break in the clouds, we were up incredibly high.  I just wanted it to be over.  It was like it was never ending.
Finally, we landed and came to a stop.  It felt like the final finally (not finally as in the end of life as we know it, but as in the end of this ordeal).  The trial was not over yet though.  We faced an incredibly long walk to the pick-up area.  People have probably gone missing or died on that walk.  We did not know what we were in for though. We just followed the signs.  First this one, then that one, then another, and another and another.  Towards the end we knew we were heading towards civilization by the parked cars.  Before that we could have been heading into a primordial forest for all we knew.
Although we enjoyed ourselves immensely, we both knew it was time to go home.  So much activity.  So little time.  For our next holiday we intend to just veg out.
