As much as I would like to, I cannot put it off any longer.  It is pack up day.  Time to leave the unit we have called home.  We have had 13 days here.  Fortunately, there was no rushing home to avoid a lock down.  We were daily watching that.  I was going to say “all good things come to an end” but I do not think that.  This one has though for sure.
As is my custom I woke up early.  I do a few things.  Today included some packing and then washing up.  I needed to be quiet as people were sleeping.
When washing up I mostly listen to music.  Today I listened with earphones on.  It is a play list I have not heard before though sometimes it plays songs I am familiar with.  If I have not heard the song before and like it, I add it to my list.
I only listened to one song this morning.  I have heard it before but it seemed so appropriate.  It was by Michael W. Smith called “I’ll Lead You Home.”   Home is where we are headed today.  There is a lot to do before then, but home is the goal.
It’s funny.  They say, “Home is where the heart is.”  In that case my home is in many different places.  Naturally it is at Ardisia Street, but my heart is also other places depending on what is happening.  It is at table tennis, at the church, at a friend’s place, at the neighbours place, at the place where I am talking with someone unexpectedly.  It can be at a number of places depending on what is happening.
Yet I know sometimes there can be a far away look in my eye.  There is another home I am looking forward to inhabiting.  It is not ready for me yet and is being prepared.  I still have stuff to do. As our favourite group “Switchfoot” say “this skin and bone is a rental.”  70 years, more or less, seems like a long time but if I compare it to the age of the earth it is not.  Compared to eternity it is infinitesimal.
Home for me is built on what transcends time.  It is the only ground I feel is safe.  I don’t want to base what I stand on, on the latest thinking.  If that is right, I cannot help but feel sorry for the millions that went before me that just did not know.  But for me there has been nothing new to render the old obsolete.
In the mean-time light looks like it is dawning.  Merril is up and soon preparations will be made for returning to the home that is in Ardisia Street.
