Home is Where the Heart is

There are definite advantages to living in Burpengary.  For one, heaven is a local call.  Another advantage is, it is far enough out of the city, but still has everything needed.
When I first moved here I was keen to fish Bribie.  I did, but didn’t get much.  One time I read that to catch fish on the surf side, use a worm at low tide.  I did that and lo and behold I got a nice flatty.  Normally I just take pics of fish and throw them back.  This one had swallowed the hook so I kept it.  Someone walking the beach saw it and bought it from me.  Win, win I reckon.
At first, I rented on the Southside.  I was only there a day or two.  I moved to a detached place and it had a piano.  I was pleased.  My most vivid memory was the dog.  He would bark if he suspected an intruder.  The trouble was, he would bark while running in the opposite direction.  I guess self-preservation ruled.  He had done his bit, and the rest was up to us.
I moved from there to a place in Mt Gravatt East.  I was there a number of years.  It was opposite shops.  One of the places was a pharmacy I rarely visited in those days.  The owner greeted me one day and asked how I was.  When I told him I was very well thank you he said that is no good for me.  He was from Britain.  One time a transformer was hit by lightning and exploded.  He said it reminded him of IRA bombs.
At that place my brother and I invented a game of soccer.  One defended and one attacked.  The big net served both as the goal and prevented the ball going next door.  From the newspaper we got every team that played in England and had our own FA Cup.  He was better than me.  The finals were both his teams.  We ran out from the house as they do and my brother kicked the ball in the air.  Unfortunately it landed on something really spiky and that was it until we got another ball.
I was very much into keeping fish in those days.  Not far from where I lived was a little suburban shop that kept both tropical and salt water fish.  One day one of the owners of the shop wanted to show me a fish they had just got in.  It was a salt water fish and fairdinkum it was cube shaped.  I had never seen anything like it.  Her comment to me, “I wouldn’t have thought of it.”  Me neither.
I had to put down my dog Sam at that place.  That was a really sad day.  I loved Sam and he loved me.   I had him in Townsville.  It had been a while since I had seen him, but I will never forget how big his chest was (and he was a little dog) when he saw me on a visit one time.  It seemed his body could not contain his joy at my arrival.  The wagging tail just did not seem enough.
When I had my cat transported to that place I really thought she had disappeared.  I looked everywhere.  Turned out she was behind a curtain in a bedroom on a window sill.  She was checking the joint out.
Home is where the heart is.  I bought in Burpengary and my heart is here now.  I love this place.
