I’ll admit it.  I think I am a bit of a homebody.  I enjoy travelling as much as anyone I think, but it is not something I am chaffing at the bit to do.  There is enough around the home to keep me interested.  In fact, sometimes it seems like there is more than enough.  Still I do want to be here.
Occasionally though I know getting away is the healthiest thing I can do.  Too much of anything I find is not good.  I know there are those that are no sooner back from an adventure, then they are planning or going to their next one.  I am not like that.  Mostly I need to be dragged somewhere.  I always enjoy it, but it is getting me there that is the challenge.  I know someone who talked about “cabin fever” after a day or two at home, and they needed to get out.  I’m not like that.
I see places involved in war and there are many people displaced.  Their homes are destroyed.  I would find that hard.  I can only speak of what I have experienced so far though and I have learned to be content no matter the circumstance I find myself in.  It always amazes me how people rebuild when they can.  No sooner does disaster beset someone, then they are starting again.  It seems to be human nature.  I see it as a good thing.
I guess I could never be a grey nomad.  I know there are heaps that do that, but I like to be around my friends.  I do not want to leave for long.  My desire is less to see places than to see people.  That is not to say there is nothing I would like to see.  I have always been fascinated by the Dalmatian Coast, and to see where Mozart was born.  Apart from that I like to visit local places.  By local I mean Australian.  The beauty of Tasmania blew me away.  To me the north coast of NSW is wonderful.  There are many really good local attractions.
I was probably spoiled growing up in Townsville when I did.  40 miles north or south and I was at places that are designated as special here.  There is no doubt though things have changed.  I revisited a river I used to go down on a tyre tube.  I would never do that now because of the crocs.  The fishing though is better than it was, but I was not used to keeping a wary eye open so I could make a quick escape.
Still, they say “home is where the heart is.”  I have lived places I really liked, and I know I could return if I wanted to, but for me that is the past.  It was good, but I am living a new chapter.
Wherever I live on this earth is only a temporary location anyway.  I may live to 100 and get a letter from the queen (I reckon she would have writer’s cramp these days, as so many seem to be living to 100) but she, like me, will only be a memory one day.  History is measured in thousands.  My life on this earth is measured in tens.  But I am looking for another home where years are measured in millions and I will be around the whole time.
