Holiday

25/4/2022

We are at just over the halfway point of our holiday.  I have been looking at what we have been doing and mostly it can be summed up in two words.  Very little.
For sure we have done things but at our pace.  We have not been obliged to do things.  There has been walks, sleeping, photography, sleeping, talking, sleeping and reading.  Did I say sleeping?
At first it was really warm.  Then the temperature plummeted by about 2 degrees.  This last few days has been cooler but not cold.  Well, the first day felt cold but since then it feels really pleasant.
But the wind is really blowing.  Where we are is sort of protected from the wind, but we can see it blowing the tops of the trees.  There is the occasional shower too.  The rain has not affected anything we do or were going to do, but we do take an umbrella with us.
My theme for photo’s is “water.”  We are used to seeing water, but it is obvious there has been a lot of rain.  There is water where there has never been water before.  We have been watching it slowly subside.
It reminds me of migrations I see in the likes of Africa.  The water comes and the animals move in for a time.  That is what has happened here.  There are some kookaburras that now seem to call this area home.  Every day they are there.  Yesterday there were heaps.  I am sure it is called a flock, but I felt a “conference” of kookaburras seemed appropriate.  They seem to keep themselves entertained.  There are also three curlews here I have not seen before.  They seem to stork and then run quickly.
There are the usual wallabies and goanna but there are also a couple of Ibis’s that are hanging around.  I do feel for the Ibis’s.   They seem to get a bad rap.  To me they are quiet nice looking birds when not on bins or in flocks at dumps.  Can’t blame them for hanging about dumps though.  Humans do it, so why shouldn’t birds?
We like to have a walk.  Initially it was taking pictures as we went.  But we have probably photographed everything that moves and everything that does not over here.  Now we walk to the canteen which is about 4 kilometres there and back.  We have a treat at the canteen.  It is a pretty walk.
I used to love taking pictures of the likes of wallabies thinking I was getting a shot of an animal in the wild.  Yesterday I saw wallabies being fed at a far away unit.  It made me think, these things do the rounds.  Still, I love to see our native wildlife.  It makes a difference to seeing the imported domestic animals I normally see.
It seems that the rest of the holiday will be more of the same.  I like that.  A rest is a rest. Sometimes the best thing to do is get away.
