The biggest door swings on small hinges.
That has come alive to me because it highlights to me how sometimes major changes in life come about as a result of seemingly small happenstances.  More often then not is it something seemingly minor that changes the course of my life.
Like when I came to Brisbane from Townsville.  I was coming for a mates wedding.  I thought while I am down here I will apply for a few jobs and see what happens.   Before I knew it I had a place to stay and then another one which was perfect with a piano housed in the place I was staying.  I applied for several jobs and got an interview for one and was accepted into QUT.  They gave me time to go and get my things from Townsville before I started.  I have been down here ever since.
To me that was a big door opening.  A major change in my life.  I am now in my third house down here.  Even getting the first one was a big door that opened on seemingly inconsequential things.  I thought I would go and see my bank manager about a house.  The said something like “I have been thinking about you.  It’s time you got a house.”  I found one in Dale Street.  His name was Dale.  A lot of good things happened there.
The church we now go to was like a big door opening on small hinges.  The hinges were Merril and I deciding we wanted to attend a local church.  Two felt right.  Neither of us cared about the denomination.  It just needed to feel right.  There were two that felt right including the one we now attend.
We got all dressed up one day to go to the other one that felt right and it had closed and merged with another church.  The other one that felt right to us.  That is how we ended up where we are now.
It seems to me big and little things happen as a result of seemingly inconsequential things.  Things that in themselves seem like things that don’t matter so much.  Yet they turn out to be pivotal.
I guess it ties in with what I feel.  Sometimes the most seemingly common things lead to much bigger things.
