Hermatage

Merril chose the word from the dictionary this time.  Her finger fell on the word “hermitage.”  It is like a hermit’s abode.  Actually, not like it.  It is.
I looked up the word and someone asked, “What is hermitage in English?”  I thought that is what I was speaking.  It is from a French word “Ermitage.”  So if I wanted to speak French for a word it seems I could just drop the H.  “You are from a ermitage yes?”
It was suggested I was hermit like at one point as I had nothing to say.  Maybe a hermit with a vow of silence.  Sometimes I do find it good to say nothing though.  Some people discussing something that was going way over my head suggested I knew more than I was letting on as I was not saying anything.  Truth is though I had no idea and opening my mouth would have given it away.
It's first known use was in the 14th century.  Because they spoke different then I reckon it would have been like “Hast thou comest from thine hermitage?”  Today the response is likely to be “say what?”  Speak English man!”
I did read that a hermit’s home can be one “screened or hidden from view. Retreat.”  Reminds me of our shed really.  Looking at the place from the street one would never know it was there.
Retreat opens up more possibilities.  I have a friend who has a place with a number of bedrooms who runs it as a retreat.  A place to get away for a period. 
I do need that sort of thing occasionally.  I may not go anywhere different, but it is important to me to sometimes retreat from interaction with others.  It is healthy for me and for others.  Bit like my phone really.  It is great for all sorts of things but when I notice it is on like 5% it is time for a recharge.  When I am on like 5% it is time for a recharge.
I don’t mind the hermitage as an occasional thing.  I do have a problem with it being an everyday lifestyle thing.  It seems to me to be contrary to the interactions of life.
Well hermitage is different.  As usual I did not think I would be thinking about it today.  But it does seem to me it is good occasionally.  Like so much I reckon it is “a time for everything” thing.
