Heavy and not so heavy metal

I read recently that “not many sounds in life spark the interest like a knock at the door.  That is especially true when the knock is not expected.
We have two doors and the outer one is a screen door that remains locked until we determine the intent of the knocker.
Once or twice a year I put up an area for scrap metal and visit all the houses in the street with a pamphlet.  The pamphlet says something to the effect of “if you have any rubbish metal, put it in the spot I set up as it will be collected at a set date.”
I have been amazed at the number of homes that have a doorbell with a camera so the person inside can determine who is visiting.  I guess I must look pretty safe.  I have had different ones add to the pile.
I did see some people in their yard doing some work and I approached them just to talk and was told that any metal they found was going to our pile.  That is until someone else pointed out that it was going to another place that collected scrap metal.
People have availed themselves of my spot though.  It is amazing what appears.  The biggest was a bbq someone was getting rid of.
When it approaches collection day, I take a picture so the collectors know what sort of vehicle they need to bring.  Before I did that, I saw them trying to make space for what I had.  They were there ages.
Last time they suggested they owed me a carton.  I definitely would prefer a carton with something in it.  Empty cartoons I tend to dispose of myself.  Although of late I am using cardboard as a base when mulching.  I have also kept some to make templates for a couple of areas I want to put pavers down.
It is getting close to time to have a metal collection again.  We are downsizing and cleaning up.  In the process we have discovered a bit of stuff to go.  I will be ringing on doorbells again.
