Head West

Well our sojourn north west continues.
We spent two days at Ruby Vale.  The place we stayed was really nice and the owner was very friendly.  They were looking after a dog and it was as friendly as anything as well.  It would come to say hello.  A pleasant surprise was the wallabies and birds.  The place was gotten using the same criteria of all places we booked but has proved to be the best so far.
We did do some fossicking and found very small opals.  We have a bag we are taking home to sift at our leisure.  We went on a mine tour there and it really seems opal fever must have beset these people as the underground mines are not a place I would like to be day in and day out.  For a few though no doubt the rewards were rich.
We then spent two days in Barcaldine.  We arrived on a Sunday and no where was open to eat except the service station.  Later that evening the rowing club was open and we enjoyed a nice burger from there.
We were wondering what to do for two days there.  We decided to visit all the attractions listed on the attractions sheet minus two.
The most pleasant surprise was the Historical Museum.  It was unpersoned but said three dollars entry and had a box to put the brass into.  They had so much stuff on display on sealed cabinets and behind sealed off areas.  Outside were many items of yesteryear including wagons and wool equipment.
In the afternoon we went to the local wetlands and took photos.
From Barcaldine we drove the short distance to Longreach.  There we visited the Hall of Fame.  We had booked a show to watch and were glad we did.
This has been an adventure in every sense of the word.  We are enjoying seeing different places and checking out our heritage.
