Head

Well that is different.  Merril chose the random word in the dictionary this time and it was “head.”  It is not something I think of often (just as well with a head like mine).  What amazes me is the different meanings of it.
It can be a noun as in cranium, an adjective as in leading or a verb as in a title or again as a verb as in move in a specific directing “heading to the club.”
What came to my mind when I heard it was as in the head of an organization.  I must admit I do not envy them these days.  It seems that more and more is being required.  Also I have never seen such a barrage of censure.  Sometimes it is warranted.  Often it is not.  People head organizations with the aim of doing their best, and every decision or step is scrutinized.
Not allowing for mistakes seems to be a mark of our age.  To me it is no wonder people are walking away from leadership positions.  It seems an accusation is enough.  Proof takes longer and often the damage is done.
To me the media plays a part.  It does not seem to matter who is in power the aim is to pull down.  It does not seem to be just mainstream media.  Social media plays a big part too.  So much space and time is given to fault finding.  I actually don’t need anyone’s help with that one, as I tend to be my own harshest critic.
It is a weird one.  Being the head is still a desire.  Leaders is something some are wired to be.  Yet it seems to me there has never been such an attack on the heads.  Many are walking away not because it is not what they feel but because motives are misunderstood or misconstrued. 
In war the desire is to neutralize the head.   There is nothing more vulnerable than leaderless people.  We see it so often these days.  Protests arise in all sorts of countries and the opposition targets the leaders.
Still, I can target what I feel is wrong, but I can also target what I think is right.  I personally feel there is much to be thankful for.  It may be twilight, but I can still see.  The best I reckon I can do is to do my best. I may be looking at the back of a tapestry and not understand what I am looking at, but the other side is a beautiful picture.  I’ll just do what I know to do.
