Having a Win

There is a saying that says, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”  It was attributed to Edmund Burke but him saying it has never been verified (according to what I read on fact checker).  The best is that maybe it is a paraphrase.
Really that does not matter to me.  I do think it is true.  Yet it is easy for me to throw up my hands and say, “what can I do?” or what difference will one person make?”
For me evil seems to be on the march.  It seems to be like an incoming tide.  There is almost an inevitability about it.  Yet that is not what I hold to.  To me this force must be overcome by a greater force.  It is only inevitable if good men do nothing.
It is a sure thing that views that I hold to are shared.  Merril and I avoid using chemicals in our garden.  We know we are not alone.  There are others that do the same.  When enough people have the will to do the same it becomes a Tsumani.
There is something about a shared idea.  It seems it can have an impact beyond what is expected.  In maths one plus one equals two.  For people it seems to be different.  The strength of a shared idea often means one plus one equals five (or whatever).    I am thinking that is because in unity there is strength.  There is power in discussing and acting together.  Perhaps my lack of strength is made up for by someone who has an abundance of strength.  United our strength becomes a force to be reckoned with.
In a tug of war one against many is no contest.  But two can be a very different story especially if the one added is a burly person.  The more added changes the contest.
I hold to the view that there is power in numbers.  But numbers are made up of many individuals.  It seems to me when we all pull together for a common cause, great things can be achieved.  A lot of the great inventions may have had their birth in the brain of one person, but it took many people working together to achieve an aim.
What may be hard to do for me as an individual is made easier by added numbers.  Instead of doing nothing, people of like mind can make a difference working together.  Then again good men (people) doing nothing has a different ending.
