Happy to Help

There is something in the James Clear email today, I find really important.
"Three qualities that have nothing to do with talent or intelligence, but can make a dramatic impact on your results: 1. Cheerful. You are pleasant to work with and generally raise the level of energy in the room.  2. Accountable. You feel personally responsible for what you want to accomplish. It is not someone else's job. It's your job.  3. Adaptable. You can find alternate paths to success. You don't need things to be a certain way to be happy."
I find cheerfulness when working really important.   People are so much more willing to help if I am at it cheerfully.  I get pleasantly surprised the number of people that come to my aid when I am engaged in an activity that has to be done but through it I maintain an openness, friendliness and cheerfulness.
I remember being totally shocked when someone came to me and said they had moved a pole.  It was on my “to do” list but I was not looking forward to it.  Others got in and did it.  There is such a willingness to do when the one wanting it done cheerfully accepts the help available.
I find accountability a biggy.  Feelings have nothing to do with doing a good job.  It may seem totally weird but I assess food I am given from a take away on “would the person want this themselves.”  It is easy to tell when a job is done because it has to be.  I look for someone putting a part of themselves into the outcome.
I must confess I avoid places where I feel the person serving will easily abandon their post.  Or when a person is presented with a situation that requires some thought and so it is avoided.
Admittedly I cannot do that.  If I have agreed to do something I like to do it well.  I have often said how Merril and I like to leave a place better than we found it.  Recently there was a task completed, and I was not totally happy with it.  So I went back and worked further until I was happy.  I measure my happiness on my perceived happiness of the receiver.
Adaptable to me matters heaps.  Often there is a multitude of ways to get something done.  Principles are few, methods are many.  When something does not work one way there is often another way to do it.
To me that is often the strength of thinking something through.  It is easy to say something cannot be done.  It can be way harder but satisfying to ascertain how something can be done.    Generally everyone is happy and there is a real sense of everyone going on to make something happen in that corner of the world.
I know I need help remaining cheerful, accountable and adaptable but do it often enough it becomes habitual.
