Happy Place

Today is my day off and it felt like it.
I got up early as usual and did some things then I went back to bed.  I was there an hour or two but got up as Merril was going out.  After I said goodbye to her back to bed I went!  I guess I was in my happy place.  Under the covers with the tv on.  The remotes working.  All was right with the world.  Not that I saw much tv.  I slept a lot.
I was there until around lunch time.  Dozing off and on.  Merril said I must have needed the sleep and I am happy to go with that.
But lunch was calling.  That was an easy decision.  I had fish on toast while watching the news.  I tell you this because I can.  Once upon a time what I had for lunch probably would not have been mentioned.  But usually these days it is a photo of the food.
I knew I did not have to do anything as it being my day off and all but if I wanted to remain in my happy place there was something I was avoiding but knew I had to do. 
I am on a board and have agreed to take the minutes.  I am a terrible minute taker and sought and had received permission to record the proceedings and write them up at my leisure.  I sort of like that as it gives me a chance to contribute without being distracted.
That is the theory anyway.  Last time the recording failed.  I did what I could but received help from another participant.  I actually do not know why the recording from my phone failed, as I have done it many times without incident.
But this time it worked!  I was able to listen, stop and write.  I knew it needed to be done and was going to take a few hours.  I guess I had no excuse not to do them as I was not doing anything.  I did them and following a very minor tweak was able to send them out to the other board members.  My happy place surfaced again.
I also had something I wanted to follow up concerning the roster I am in charge of.  I did that and it all had a happy ending.  My happy place got even happier.
It was not long before Merril arrived home.  As is traditional I helped her unload the car as she had been shopping.  When she was longer getting home than I thought she may, it occurred to me that if she has gone shopping (which I knew she had) it could be a while.  Merril’s shopping is so different to mine.  I am in and out like a shot or I am on a mission.  Merril lingers and seems to examine every isle.  Anyway, knowing she had gone shopping explained the delay and saved me being concerned she was taking longer than I expected.
As is our custom we had a coffee together and discussed the events of the day.  I decided I had had enough for the day and veged watching tv.
Foreign Correspondent came on and I do like to watch that show.  They did a retrospective and highlighted turmoil across the world.  It brought home to me how I should enjoy my happy place here while I can.  Somehow it is all closing in.
