Happily Ever After

It seems life is full of choices.  Some are easy to make.  Like with power tools.  I have a habit of turning something off at the power and pulling out the plug as soon as I am finished with something.  On a building site I reckon I would make a good one of them what ever it is called.  I like to keep the site tidy.  No trip hazards or dangerous things just lying around.
Other choices though are not so easy.  Sometimes I can clearly see the benefit.  I know it is the best way to go.  Sure, some things may need to fall by the wayside, but my goal excludes some things.  They are just a distraction at best and bad for me and others at worst.
The thing is, I would think the choice would be easy.  It really is black and white.  But alas (or a more modern term, “rats!”) my inclination is to take the line of least resistance.  I may know something is the way to go but that does not guarantee it happening.  Sometimes I make it all about me without a thought for anyone else.
That is a worst-case scenario though.  Sometimes we all live happily ever after.  Well so far so good anyway.  For this term “happily ever after” to have made it into our vocabulary it must be an ideal.  It may be a dream but give me a good dream over a bad one any day.
It really depends what I am aiming for.  As they say aim at nothing and I am sure to hit it.  Trouble is if I aim at nothing then the best I can hope for is a balance between doing what I have to do and cutting loose.  So often the cutting loose causes me to come undone and the doing what I have to suffers.
I reckon I am Joe Average and cutting loose does not involve things like murder (I’d appreciate it if you play your part and help me keep it that way) but it seems even every day stuff can cause a fog which keeps me from seeing clearly. And the thing is I tend to be like a car that needs a wheel alignment.  There is a definite pull one way that needs fixing.  Running off the road and perhaps crashing into a tree is definitely not on my “to do” list but it so could happen if the problem is not fixed.  Fortunately, I have a good mechanic.
Often it seems my problem is due to my limited view.  I am down there in amongst it when I really need to see the view from the hilltop.  For sure hilltop views are temporary and before long I am in the valley again, but it is the memory of the hilltop view that keeps me going.  Hilltops are great for getting bearings and checking my compass.
Hilltops are also great for seeing where I am headed.  It may be near or far and there may be a lot of stuff to go through before I get there, but the destination is worth what ever may be in the way.
