Guests
What a day.  We were preparing to have guests over in the evening and had done a list of things to do.  We knew it was coming and would keep us busy.
We had a few things to get at the shops so Merril went there.  The first thing I was going to do was mow.  I had done the blower vacing, and leaves were on the lawn ready to be consumed and broken up by the mower.  I got the mower out and it rained.  That was enough for me, so I went back inside and had a coffee.  It stopped raining and I got the job done.
The day before we put together a windmill we had bought ourselves for Christmas.  It just about needed a degree in construction to put together.  Eventually we got it together with only a few pieces left over.  We do think they we surplus to requirements as all looked to be as it should be.
Merril got back from the shops and was going to spend the next several hours cooking.  Before that however Merril and I prepared the room we were to have the guests in.  There were some tasks that required two to complete.
One such task was to put up the marque.  It is way easier now that we have some idea of what we are doing.  We put a carpet down and chairs and a table in it, so it was like a lounge area.  We also put up a tarp to keep the area from being affected by rain being blown in. (when the guests came, we had to move there for it to be utilized.)
One area that remained unused was a fireplace I had prepared.  It was a small self-contained area.  It did show me I did not have much fuel for the fire which I needed to do something about.  Kindling was not a problem as a walk around the yard involved collecting small branches that had blown down from a tree.  Bigger logs would need to be bought.  I was reminded again the fireplace would be good for burning papers, as it was not an open fire.
It was one of those days that items to be done kept coming up or being invented if not thought of.  I weeded an area which I had not intended doing at the start of the day.  I am reminded continually of something a mate said.  “Having guest over is a good excuse to work on the place.”  That was us.
Merril was busy the whole day as was I.  This did not stop us from getting our sleep in the afternoon.  Some things you just make time for.
The weather was dicey all day.  We did not know if the heavens were going to open up. This would have been an inopportune thing for us.  We were pleased the rain held off and only started as the last of the guests was leaving.  There had been about 15 of us.
That really is it for celebrations for a while.  I am not counting my birthday which is soon, and I know will be a massive celebration all around the world.  Well maybe not, but maybe it should be.
