Growing

I did some work in the yard this morning. A couple of hours’ worth. I actually did more than I had intended to do but I knew I had to add soil to one garden bed. I was hoping it would only be one loads worth. But I decided to do that in the afternoon when it was cooler.

When the afternoon came I really did not feel like it. I did one load but it needed another. I was looking for any excuse not to do it. Then one came. There were thunderstorms around. I recalled that a guy got hit under a blue sky when one was coming. I did not need to think of that, but it was the excuse I needed. Then it started to rain. I needed no further encouragement. It did not help that when I came out of the garden shed it had stopped raining.

But the thunderstorms were still there so I downed tools and went inside. Glad I did though. It started storming intensely. We had hail. But by this time, I was inside. I had a good view of it unfolding.

For some reason I started thinking about the doctor’s surgery. We had a bit of a wait so got to talking to the receptionist and others waiting. One lady waiting really impressed me. She was 86 and told us about her using the computer and ipad.

Made me think of someone we know who was around 8o and went to “Computer Kindy.” I think it is great how comfortable they are with the technology. Many seem to think “well that is for another generation and I will leave it alone.” Others seem to think “well I need to learn, and it seems like a great way of doing things.”

Then I had a thought that inspired me to write. I thought “pride prevents growth.” It seems some say “I couldn’t possibly do that. What would people think?” While others think “I need to know that so who cares what people think. I’ll do it.” I like that. People know things because of that. There is no guessing or pretending to be something they are not. Most of us just want solutions and not just theories.

Yet a life of cover up does not mean a person is doomed to cover up. To me it matters not when the penny drops, as long as the penny drops. I will only learn something when I admit I do not know.

Bit like the ancient Chinese proverb really. “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” In the past is great but now is good. Reminds me of us saying “I wish I knew then what I know now.” In the past would be better but now is good too.

Well a look at the BOM seems to indicate most of the storms have gone. I guess I will need to bbq. I am so not an alpha male. But I do not think twice about it. I think this is like the 7th time.
