Greed

What I just heard can be nothing but greed to me.  Apparently in the west they pay $5.50 per kilojoule for gas.  In eastern states we pay $40.  I am led to believe it costs $1 per kilojoule to extract.  The reason given is that in the west the government insisted the locals pay a fair price while in the east producers were allowed to charge to locals what they wanted.
I am all for a fair profit margin and believe all should be able to make a decent living from what they do.  What does get me is unreasonableness.
The basis of this unreasonableness is to me greed.  According to Merriam-Webster greed is “a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is needed motivated by naked ambition and greed.”   As Wikipedia states “Greed has been identified as undesirable throughout known human history…”
Although I do not like it I do well not to point the finger.  Although what I do may not be as obvious or wrong I am predisposed to looking out for number one at the cost of others.  Although what I do may not be as obvious, I ask myself if being selfish is not just another form of greed?
Even from the youngest age we see it displayed in kids.  They want their toys and they do not want to share.  Transfer that to adulthood and maybe I do not want to share my gas at a reasonable price.  I want the maximum I can get.  A “selfish and excessive desire,..”
To me it is worth being possessive of what is mine and is wanted by another only for their personal gain without thought for the welfare of anyone else.  For me that is not selfishness or greed but maximum care based on love.  An example of greed I have seen is always advantageous only to the one who gains.
I have been shopping and seen what I thought was greed.  It made me never want to go back there.  It seems to me that attitude always produces trouble.  It may take a while to exhibit itself but it does to perpetrator no good, or those aligned with them.  There may be short term gain but it is at an exorbitant cost.
The thing for me about greed is it never seems to be satisfied.  It also does not only display itself in one area but it seems to permeate a life.
I for one want to guard against it.  As I heard someone say “I am satisfied with an unsatisfied satisfaction.  I am satisfied but when it comes to ways to make me a better person, I am unsatisfied.  I want more – not possessions but good qualities.
