Grease

Maybe it is best not to tell Merril this.  She knew.  She had an answer, and it was right.
I do the occasional BBQ and grease is a real problem.   No matter how hard I try I invariably get it on my hands.  When I do, I do not want to touch anything else but often I need to.  I will, where I can, use the back of my hand or some other method.  Sometimes though I still need to use my greasy fingers.  As hard as I try for it not to be the case, there is a transfer of grease to the other item I need to access.  It becomes a “now I will need to deal with that” thing.
I know men are good for dealing with yucky things but yucky is still yucky no matter who deals with it.  We have dog sat in our time and it was my job to deal with the dog droppings each day.  I always used bags to access it and would keep the maximum distance possible between me and the droppings.  But it was never like “you beauty dog droppings.  My favourite time of the day!”  I did what I had to do and moved on.
Anyway, I asked Merril, “what is the best substance for dealing with grease?”  She told me washing powder.  So at the appropriate time and when no one was around I tried it.  It worked a treat.  I had the answer!  World peace was guaranteed!  Well maybe not but it sure solved the problem I had.  I could go ahead and wash up.
But we had another problem.  The gas to warm the water had run out.  That had never happened before but it did this time.  We had mentioned wanting more gas the day before.  Now a want was an urgent need.  Of course it ran out on the week end.  When I rang the gas supplier I got a message. “The office is closed.”  Great help that was – NOT.
So I boiled the kettle for hot water.  Three times.  I had the solution for dealing with grease.  Nothing was going to stop me.  Where there is a will there is a way.  Well I had the will.  The way was different.  But it was effective.  I was going to let nothing dtop me washing up.
Hang on a minute.  Why the big deal?  What difference would it make if I did not wash up?  Would Israel/Arab peace negotiations fail if I did not?  Would China/USA become best friends again if I did?  Neither really and even if it was, I doubt that would have motivated me.
What motivated me was the fact that if I did not the dishes would not go away.  I could make all the excuses I liked and really who could blame me if I did not do it?  Circumstances had made it tougher than normal.
Now I can wash up knowing it is smaller than it might have been.  But really, big deal.
