Golf

We have golf clubs at home.  A couple of sets if them.  I don’t play these days but I did.  Many a good time was had on the golf course.  My dad used to be off a handicap of two.  I remember the first time I beat him.  He had left his glasses at home.
Golf was a bit of a tradition in our household.  I have two brothers.  We all played.  Only one does now and he plays a couple of times a week.  At the time of writing he is off 13.  That is B Grade.  He so did not want to be in A Grade.  That is up to 12.  He represents his club.
Recently he told how he had ended up in A Grade.  He would never throw a shot, but his handicap was brought into 12.  He was having a good round.  On the last hole he could not see the green when he played his shot.  It was a miraculous shot.  He gathered it had been by the applause that emulated from those watching.  He had to retrieve his ball from in the hole.
I was more of a hacker.  I had good rounds in the low eighties but scores closer to three figure cricket scores were more common.
I loved to travel and play golf.  One of the biggest regrets of my life was not playing a course that was near by when I was in the States.  A friend of mine was visiting Scotland and on a course and thought “I have seen all this before.”  Turns out they had seen it on a golf simulation program.
There were cows on a course in country NSW.  I had enough to deal with without there being cows.  Kangaroo’s are common on golf courses.  They love the grass and can often be seen resting between eating.  I saw someone get a birdie with their first shot on a par four.  I don’t know if the bird survived.
Another mate of mine hit the high wires of an electrical line.  I reckon if he had been aiming for it, he would have never got it.  Hitting it really altered the trajectory of the ball.  He was the one who said to me if there is an electrical storm grab a two iron because not even God can hit a two iron.
I was playing with dad one time and he was teeing off.  There was a group of us and all was quiet as he was about to hit.  At that moment the sprinklers engaged.  His movement off the tee was hurried and odd.
I was involved in a car chase.  I thought I would hide behind a tennis court.  Unbeknown to me just further down was a golfing tee off area.  I will never forget the expression on the golfer’s face.  The guy about to tee off felt it was decision time.  Although I ended up no where near them, I think he made a wise choice.  He looked at me and then at his ball.  As I had not stopped moving, he decided to retrieve his teed-up ball and high tail it out of there.
Probably everyone who plays a bit of golf has golfing stories.  I have more things that happened which I may talk about later.  But one thing that never changed was my enjoyment if it.
