Going Places

Writing enables me to consider issues.  If I need to make decisions on the fly I will, but I prefer to consider a matter.  Otherwise often it is prejudice that drives me.  When I write I have a good think about things.
I really do not mind that people disagree with me, but I do mind people disagreeing with me as if I am basing something on a disproved fact.  More than once, I have typed something and thought “I need to check that out.”  It does not mean I get thing right 100% of the time.  It does mean though I will never deliberately distort something.  Either what I think stands or it does not.
Houses built on sand tend to tumble.  A lot of people want a mansion by the seaside, but the sea has a mind of its own.  Sometimes it does not play by our rules.
It is no wonder there is a proliferation of fact checker sites.  Many a time something is quoted as the way it is, but it is built on something debunked as a myth.  The trouble is, many do not know that, or they chose to believe what they want to despite repeated claims to the contrary built on the way things really are.
That is a place I do not want to go.  I do think it is right for people to have a passion.  Climbing the ladder of success with the ladder against the right wall.    Something that helps get them up of a morning. Yet for me, if it is not my passion it sees me potentially living a lie.
No matter how passionate I may be, I guess I am a great one at trying to avoid burnout.  So often what starts as a blaze of enthusiasm ends in a smoulder that goes cold.  I really do not think it needs to be that way.  I have had to work it through.  Properly managed, roles and writing can have a long life.
Early on someone pointed out to me that an article was too long.  I now make articles between 400-600 words.  Even that is too long for some, but it is an amount that enables me to be succinct.
I hear of speeches that were four hours long.  Personally, I do not think that is fair on anyone.  Wagner composed a piece of music that was so long people walked out.  One of my favourite albums I do not feel is long enough.  I am a great believer in people saying, “I wish there was more,” rather than them saying, “I’m glad that’s over.”
I think surely something can be fairly briefly said.  Often, I find something is said initially and everything beyond it repeats.  I have other things to do and if I know something will be long, I may not go in the first place.
The claim is often made “no-on reads any more” but as one Facebook person pointed out, many pictures posted feature a bookcase behind the person.  People read.  There may be less than there were, but they are still out there.  I know because I am one of them.
It sure keeps things interesting for me.  Sometimes I write heaps at once and other times I come to post having no idea what I am going to write.  Seems to summarize the way things are for me really.
