Go, Go, Go.

I read something this morning I think is a great idea but not for me right now.
It was the question from James Clear.  He said, “There is one month left in the year. Most people are ready to coast to the finish line, but one good month can make the whole year feel like a success.  What can you do in the next 30 days to build momentum and finish the year on a high note?”
I am all for finishing on a high and making the most of what I have and who I am.  24/7.  But there comes a time when I want to veg.  Not run amok but take things at a more leisurely pace.  I cannot maintain go, go, go.  I do not believe I was made to.  As I am fond of saying to everything there is a season.  To me there is a time to refrain from go, go, go.
There is a reason I sleep.  I need rest.  There is a reason I veg sometimes.  I need rest.  Rest to me does not mean non-productive.  When I sleep things are happening in my body.  There is restoration.  When I refrain from go, go, go there is restoration happening.    I read, I spend quality time with my wife and others.  I am strengthened for the tasks ahead.
As I so often indicate if I am no good for me I am no good for anyone.  I need a service and tune.  Sometimes that happens in the midst of go, go, go and at other times it is when I am off the road a while.  To me it does not matter when it happens, as long as it happens when it is due.
Another thing he wrote that I liked was saying how five minutes of something undoes much neglect.  In a sense it ties in with what I am attempting right now.  I am very much against setting myself up for a fall.
I am very much for making achievable goals and celebrating small wins, rather than attempting too much and throwing away everything when I fail.  My goals are certainly modest by some standards, but I am happy as I am keeping to them.
What I am finding is that when I set small goals they grow.  Not due to any sense of obligation but because I had more in mind and winning in the small things increase my readiness and desire to win bigger.
It seems to me very much like exercise.  Maybe 100 pushups is beyond me now.  But if I start by doing 10, I will increase my strength to do 20 and so on.  Eventually I will do 100.
I find it too easy to be unreasonable with myself.  To ask too much of myself.  To be a yes person and regret it.  A win is a win, and it sure beats a loss.  For me building up is a long-term thing, and as long as I am heading in the right direction, I am happy.
