I never cease to be amazed at the direction my thoughts take.
Yesterday I was considering “how much do I really want what I want?”  It may seem a weird question to be asking myself at 67.  Yet I am a great believer in going for what I want no matter my age.  I bought a book in the last week called “How to age without getting old.”
There are things I want to do and goals I have.  I realize that age limits me in some areas but in other areas I think I have heaps I can still do.
It is on that basis I have been asking the above question.  I have been down roads that did not conform with my desires, but were temporary pleasure points contrary to the goals I had.  Pursuing these not only were bad for the goals I had set myself - in some cases they were counter-productive and set me back.
I am responsible for my own actions, but I do think I have been manifesting a family trait.  I have seen edifices built only to come tumbling down.  But I have also seen edifaces built in my family that remained.  It is those I aspire to.
To achieve my goals the way I see myself at the moment is like a person that has cleared their desk and only puts back what is helpful.
It reminds me of a course I went on at work where they recommended removing everything from the desk at the end of the day so I could start afresh the next day.  It was radical for sure, and in many ways made it look like I had nothing to do.  Yet on the contrary it was a way to do even more than I had been achieving.
I guess it is like an athlete.  There are things that need to be forgone and things that need to happen.  An athlete cannot eat just anything all the time, but only enough to feed the goal.  By the same token they need to be practicing in their chosen field to make them as good as they can be.
I feel the same goes for me.  There are things to forgo and things to do.  While practicing hard I need to forgo what sets me back.  Hence my question to myself.  “How much do I really want it?”
My response to that I reckon determines what I can achieve.
