Giving Help

I saw stuff in the Invictus games that I really like.
Certainly, it is not always appropriate.  In many things I have trained to win, and I will do all that is legitimately within my power, to do it.  It may be why I have a problem with a lot of what I see today.  To me, a winner is someone who gives it their best shot.   It does not extend to dubiously calling someone a winner.  For me, for someone to improve if they want to, they need reality checks.
What I saw at the Invictus Games that I liked, was a person giving it their best shot, but that was not going to be enough to get them over the line.  It was then that others came to their aid.  Certainly it may have cost the aid giver gold, but what mattered to them, was not just that they made it, but that others did too.
It matters big time to me that I have enough in reserve to make it, but I want as many as possible to make it to.  When it is in my power to help, then I want to help.  Sometimes it is not in my power, and I need to trust there are those who can, and who will be willing to.  At other times, the power to help is a group thing.
There is an ad on tv, which I think is a Westpac thing, or something like it.  A guy is stuck between a train and the platform.  Individually, lifting a train to aid the person’s release is impossible.  What happens is a big group is organized to lift the train. It works, and the guy is released.  The how matters less to me than achieving the desired result.  Sometimes, whether I like it or not, my best is not enough.  I need someone else to help me get over the line.  I need help.
I have a lasting impression from the Invictus games of someone going back to help someone else over the line.  For me, there are few things worse than dreaming and failing.  The memory lasts a lifetime.  If it is in my power to help, I need to help.
After all, I may be the one who needs the help, and I would like to think there are others who would give it if they can.
