Give it a go

I tend to write about stuff because I am thinking about it all the time.  Occasionally it is something out of left field and more often than not I find it really interesting.  But for the most part, when it comes to putting my thoughts down, they tend to reflect where my head is at that moment.
Today is no different.  I have felt for a long time that what I dwell on tends to grow bigger.  That is one of the reasons I tend not to give a lot of time to the problems of the world.  That is not to say I do not care about them or give them thought.  Trouble is, I know myself well enough to know that if I spent heaps of time moaning about the obvious problems like homelessness, the rent problem, domestic violence etc it would be bad for me. 
Added to that is I feel if someone is not a part of the solution they are part of the problem.  Goodness knows how long ago I heard it but a song I like contained the words “saying nothing is saying no.”  It is very much like the saying “the way for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”
To me standing on the sidelines as a spectator and doing nothing but bemoaning a problem or even suggesting alternatives without acting on them is the same as doing nothing.  In no way does it help in my mind.  It may get people upset but to me acting out of that motivation tends to lead to the same in a different format.
That is the main reason I tend to give myself to thinking about what I believe are solutions and acting on those thoughts.  I know I cannot solve all the world's problems so I do what I can in my corner of the world.  Imperfectly, but I reckon failing at a good thing beats not trying at all.   Besides, thankfully failure is only part of the story, and not the main part.
