Giants

I guess I am easily led.  I am in the habit of checking my emails early in the morning.  One came featuring a guy called Max Lucardo.  He will be running a series of free videos in June which I have subscribed to on “Facing you Giants.”  The series does not start until June but what I heard was enough to set off a train of thought.
It seems most know the story of David and Goliath.  How David brought Goliath down with a sling shot.  I reckon he must have practiced a lot.  Maybe if I practiced my table tennis forehand a lot more, I could hit more winners.
He may as well have been talking directly to me.  I know I have giants.  I am not going to list them here as it would take several sessions.  The thing is, I know I am not unique.  It is not like “stay away from Peter Kuskie as you will only be uncovering a Pandora’s Box of issues that are totally foreign to anyone’s experience.”  Like most I think, I face my battles alone.
If I were to make a list of my giants, I would omit some for sure.  When I have a lot of people to thank, I generally make it really general.  When I don’t. I know there is a good chance I will forget someone.  Not deliberately, but the oversight will be remembered for sure.  The only way I found I could avoid offending someone unintentionally, was to say a thanks to all rather than to thank everyone individually.  People know who they are.
Reminds me of the giant, "What I say."  I am not saying it is me.  I know someone.  It is too easy to run off at the mouth.  What may be just words to me, are wounds for the hearer.  The thing about them is they cannot be taken back.  Profuse apologies can be made, but to me that is like saying sorry to someone who has been stabbed.  Apologies do not change that a person has been stabbed.  Though remorse is good.
Another giant I have heard about, (this sudden need to clear my throat is totally unrelated), is a lack of patience.  So much can be undone if it is not maintained.  To me it is like building a house and just about finishing it and pulling it all down.  Perseverance is hard but it is worth it.  I reckon it is why so many with so much natural talent fall short while others who are sloggers achieve stuff.  They just keep at it.
Giants come in all shapes and sizes but they all have one thing in common – they are big.  Some people have a problem with anger.  (I can confidently say "not me" for that one.  Used to yes.  Not any more,) I was talking to a guy on the train once who told me he only drank, because when he smoked dope he got angry.  That is different.
Some giants are easy to see when I spend time with someone.  Others are hidden and are private battles.  So often there is a sense of regret and a desire that it never happens again, and it happens again.  Sigh….been there.  Trouble is though, until I see a giant as a giant, I learn to live with it, and accommodate it.

I have found that will power is not enough.  I need help.
