Gecko's and Ants

27/4/2020

I’m pretty well over this Covid19 thing.  The four walls are not changing much.  I think I will have moved before the vines take over and this place is a relic of the past.
It is a bit sad when a spider making a web in the corner of the ceiling represents a major event.  Or gecko’s scurrying across the ceiling chasing a moth.  If the moth is too big for them, they do not move.  They are interested, but the moth is safe.
I am taken in by where the gecko’s come from.  They often run out from behind a picture.  Sometimes they come out from a crack I did not know existed, yet to them it is home.  When the lights come on the gecko’s come out.  During the day I sometimes move something and exposed their hide out.
Unfortunately for them, sometimes they are in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Occasionally we are just going about our business and discover a gecko in the frame of the door.  Frozen in time.  I do not think they are just sleeping.  I think they are deceased.  If they have been there a while, they are more skeletal than flesh and blood.
Sometimes the only evidence of their dropping in is their droppings.   If the corner has not been dealt with for a while, there can be a lot of them.  There seems to be so many Gecko’s.  Not as many as there are ants though.
This tidying up and visiting places in sheds I do not normally go, has revealed so many ants.  It seems any place is perfect for them to lay their eggs.  Often it is just a matter of taking what they are in outside and enabling them to disperse.  That is a best- case scenario for them.
We have a cover we are going to put up to protect us from rain.  We have not done it yet.  So we stored it.  The ants like it and like the place it is.  It is like foam core board but clear.  We can see them inside going about their ant business, raising a family, passing on heaps to the next generation.  All I can say is enjoy it while you can ant.  Your days are numbered.  I have plans for you and I do not think you are going to like them.  Oh…did I think that or say it.
I suppose the gecko’s and ants perform a valuable community service at this time.  Before Covid19 I would see them and think “that’s interesting.”  Now they are like a four-part study and a series of books. “Is there a ceiling for Gecko’s?” “A Hitchhikers Guide to the Carport.”
The sooner self-isolation is a thing of the past the better.
