Future

I saw something written this morning that caused me to do a double take.  I found it and thought about it a while.  I do reckon it sums thing up.  It said, “the present is the future of the past.”
It made me think that right now what I experience is what I held to in the past and expected of the future.  If I saw myself down and out or just leading a life of quiet desperation, I would head that way.  If on the other hand I saw good things and lived in hope that is what I would get.  Even the bad things are seen through the prom of good things.
The unexpected does happen and the course of my life changes but even then nothing is automatic.
I hold strongly to the belief that my future is made in the present.  A person who builds a house has a future in mind.  Building the foundations and ordering the material is all based on a picture of the future.  In the same way what I build now is based on my picture of the future. 
My future does not depend on events happening a certain way.  There is so much I have no control over.  I have found it is those things that conspire to bring me a cropper.   I did not see my home flooding coming.  It was not a part of my plan.  If what I had in mind depended on that not happening, I would have taken my bat and ball an gone home (except it was flooded)
But there is also plenty I do have control over.  For me it is in that area I concentrate on.  There are times I do stuff that is not conducive to achieving my aim.  Times I feel like blow you jack I am going to do this despite it not being in my best interest.  But when I go down that path there is always a knowing this is not helpful.  I try to keep those times as short as possible.
I know that my future is not a given. Just because someone may see things differently it is up to me to make something happen.  A hope is not a hope when it is a wish.  If I want the best I need to make it happen.
When I sit for an exam, passing is always dependent on the time I have spent studying.  Passing opens doors.  My future is reliant upon what I do in the present.  I will not study based on a wish.  But I will, based on a hope and expectation and my desire to travel a certain path.  Circumstances may conspire against me but depending on what I see as my future, they are potential stumbling blocks rather than stop signs.
What I have is now.  My future starts now. “The present is the future of the past.”
