Friends

Sometimes what I write is a reflection on the day or a word from a dictionary.  At other times it is what I am thinking about and working through.  That is the case with this one.
I have been thinking about the statement, “if you want to have friends you need to show yourself as friendly.”
That is the way I have been for a long time.  I just about wear it as a badge of honour someone saying to me, “you treat everyone the same.”  It is true.  It matters not to me if someone is seen as really important or an associate of mine.  It is my habit to treat everyone with respect or dignity and as worth listening to.
I have met those who feel they are superior to others and want to be heard without listening.  In my experience they tend to be lonely people.  I happen to feel that the results I may be wanting to achieve can be when I get others on board and let them know that together we can achieve this.  To my mind those with a sense of ownership achieve the most.
To me it is one thing to say I would like friends and it is something else to do something about it.  I do not know if it is right or wrong, but I was seeing the desire for something as either a surface thing or an undercurrent thing.
In a sense it is the difference between I wish and I will.  It seems if something is surface level it is like “I do it occasionally or if I get the chance or feel like it.”  Something that is an undercurrent is “I will do this.  I will make time for it because it matters to me.”
That is the way I feel it is with friendships.  If it matters, I make time for it.  If that is a problem for me, I deal with the reason for it being a problem.  The bottom line for me is something that I want strongly is something I am willing to do what it takes to make happen.
I guess that is easy for me to say because I am a people person.  For some at the moment it may feel like a bridge to far, but I reckon it is a bridge worth crossing.
