Fresh

Merril picks words from the dictionary that are so much better than mine.  I just know my time will come but right now this is not it.  Her finger fell on the word “fresh.”  At my turn my finger fell on the word “synod.”  Fair dinkum “synod” are you serious?  I wrote about it and even got a picture but never posted it.  I learned stuff but was hardly inspired by it.
“Fresh” on the other hand I feel I can dig.  There seems to be something fresh about fresh.  I actually like fresh, and it is something I get off on.
Although there are a few different types of fresh as in fresh water or someone feeling fresh or fresh food as opposed to canned food, it is fresh as in new or different or not seen before I like.
To me I do not despise what may have happened long ago.  So often it is the building block in my life as to what happens now.  Yet when someone talks only about what happened long ago alone as though they were the “good old days” my suspicion is aroused.  I love good stuff happening in the past but good stuff happening now inspires me to think my now can be different.
While what happened long ago may have been fresh at the time, age for me has a way of nullifying freshness.  Reminds me of the newspaper editor that only wanted fresh news.  Finally, a reported came and said, “explosion in vacant park.”  The editor asked, “when did that happen?’ and the reporter said “listen.”
Fresh that has not yet happened may just be conjecture or hope for me, but fresh news that just happened is different.  I may have been planning for it or praying for it and I am (as the surfies say) “stoked.”
Ok old things may have been great, and I may enjoy bringing them out for a look or to use, but it is the new stuff that seems to get me in right now.  I just know if I get something new as a birthday gift and I have been wanting it, it definitely holds my attention and I use it here and now.
That does not mean the old has no value.  It sure did once and still may as something I use time to time to get me out of trouble.  But something solid and fresh and new can add to my arsenal.  It can be like another piece in the jigsaw for me.  Pieces may have been put together long ago, and are important to make a picture, but it is the pieces I put in now that mean the most now.
I am deliberately ignoring old smelly, mouldy things.  They need to be dealt with, but they are always off putting.  But good fresh is good.  “Same, same” gets old.  Good fresh is always something worth pursuing.
