Fresh

Hmmm.  Dictionary day again and the word for today is “fresh”.
I just look at various dictionaries and see there are heaps of applications of the word fresh. Like getting a fresh start or a new beginning or getting some fresh air.  That generally means to leave a room and go outside.  It is often associated with clearing the head.  Fresh can be new or different like fresh evidence or instructions or a new look at something.
There can be fresh as in recent.  I admit I love fresh bread.  Especially fresh white bread and especially fresh white bread coated in a thick layer of butter.  Ok not good for me but delicious in my mind.  Also a fresh coat of paint can make to world of difference to the look of something.
There are so many applications of the word fresh.  Normally after a shower and change of clothes I feel fresh and clean.  Sometimes I will just have to have a shower to be able to sleep.  I find it is like I am fighting a losing battle when I know I need a shower to sleep properly and I try to sleep anyway.
Also sometimes a shower means I not only feel fresh and clean I am also fresh to perhaps tackle a task.  It is not just a shower that determines such a thing, but a good amount of sleep can recharge my batteries.
The Merriam-Webster gives the history of words and how the English word came into existence.  I think that last part is called “Etymology.”  I must admit that sounds like something I would take something for.
Anyway it says fresh, as an adjective, adverb or noun is Middle English, from Anglo-French fresch, freis, of Germanic origin; akin to Old High German frisc fresh; akin to Old English fersc fresh.  Its first use was in the 12th century.  News to me this dictionary even has words it rhymes with like mesh, flesh, thresh etc.
For all its possible meanings and applications I tend to think of it mostly in terms of “making a fresh start.”  That has meant a lot to me.
