Fresh

I know that I can post old stuff if I have nothing new for the day.  I have heaps of things written that I have never posted.  Sometimes it is because I do not feel comfortable posting stuff, and at other times, I like what is there but have moved on.  Generally, I know when I post something older, but a reader does not.
Lately I have had a bit of a change of thinking.  I like to write something fresh for now, for posting tomorrow.  Memories are great, but new memories are better.
What has led to this is I know I like to eat fresh stuff.  For some things if an item has past its use by date, it gets smelly.  I do not know how many others have a freezer like we do.  We are better than we were.  More than once we have found an item buried deep within the freezer that has past its use by date.  It was good once.  It is not so good now.  A little past I am willing to risk it.  A lot past and I do not want to go there.  The crows are not as fussy though.  Defrost it and they will eat it.
The old saying says “fresh is best” and to me it is.  I sure like that old stuff is often usable, but I go for fresh.  The old stuff gets mouldy and un-usable.  It is why I tend to go for frozen veges these days.  Too often the fresh stuff is with us so long it is not fresh anymore.  A fridge clean-out reveals what lurks.  Sometimes the smell gives it away.  “Gotta find out where that smell is coming from.”
With food I cannot afford to take chances.  If I get it wrong, I can be really sick.  Sometimes I can get it right and still be sick.  A bad experience can put me off for ages.  I did not eat fish fingers for a long time for that reason.  Another friend of mine the other night revealed he does not eat prawns anymore.  It was a bad experience years ago.
Even when what I eat is fresh, it needs to be the right sort of food to do me any good.  The dessert I have, may be fresh, but if it is all I have there is no doubt my diet will be lacking.
I heard about a guy that wrote a letter to the editor.  In it, he said he had calculated he had heard something like 1,000 messages at church and did not remember one, so he was not going any more.  There was a big debate by letter that went on for a while until someone wrote in, “I have been married (however many) years.  In that time my wife has prepared (say 1,000) meals for me.  I must confess that in that time none was so memorable I can point to it saying that one stood out.  Yet I cannot deny that though I do not remember them specifically, they have done me good and given me the strength I needed.”
I like fresh and will go for it.  Old can be good and no doubt sustained me, but I like fresh stuff to sustain me now.
