Forgiving

I must admit I am being blown away by what I am reading at the moment.
The book is by No.1 New Your Times bestselling authors.  It contains 101 stories.  The stories are a good size, in that they can be read easily in one sitting.
The latest story I read was about a padre who, on an atrocious stormy night, was asked to go to a hospital to see a man who wanted last rites said. It took a while to get there, but he did.
The fella indicated he really just wanted to talk.  He was a loner.  He lived a long way from anyone and avoided people when he could.  He and the padre talked about many things.  Finally he said he wanted to confess, as no one could do anything now anyway.
He had lived with something his whole life that had haunted him.  He was very fond of the drink.  He left a pub one night in his car and killed two ladies and their mum.  The padre said if I can forgive you, God can. That was my mum and two sisters.
I personally don’t reckon there is anything outside of scope when it comes to forgiveness.  Some are filled with remorse, while for others it is water off a ducks back. Personally, I have regrets but I know there is nothing I can do that is a surprise.
I need to ask myself, who am I really?  Sometimes it is more my own expectation I have failed, than that of another.  I like to think I am incapable of somethings, but I really can’t take credit for what I was born into.  Often for me, it is the expectations I have of myself, that stand in the way of grace.
I don’t believe in degrading stuff or downplaying it.  Some things are terrible no matter which way they are looked at.  If it was my decision I would throw away the key.  But the final decision is not mine to make.  I am too inclined to write off.  Yet a life time of experience can be overturned in a moment.
This section of the book is on love.  The story before it, was about someone meeting their former cruel prison guard. Though it was really hard, they forgave. On a scale of one to ten, my experience is probably a minus four.  However to me, it does not matter if my offence is seen as major or minor, an offense is still an offence.
It needs to be dealt with.  I can’t. All I can do is not enough. That needs someone else.
