Flu

There are no doubt times I should go someplace, even if I do not feel like it.  There are other times, I definitely should stay in bed.
We would have people who “soldiered on,” and came to work drugged up and obviously suffering the effects of the flu.  We admired them, but wished they were not there.  It sure was not that we did not like them, it was that we did not want to get what they had.
I have a friend who gives me an incredibly wide birth if I so much as cough in his presence.  It has become a standing joke for us (well a sitting joke, if we are both sitting.  I don’t know what it is called if one is standing and the other is sitting).  I think one of the reasons I have suffered so few flu’s in my life, is that I tend to hold my breath for a long time, when I hear someone nearby cough.  Many germs are air born.  This of course does not help me with what has been touched.  It is no wonder we get the flu, when it is estimated by experts that we touch our face at least a 1,000 times a day.  Personally, I have not counted it out.  I have though, done normal stuff for a brief while at least, and then multiplied it out.  I reckon they are about right.
I am thinking also, that the reason many hospital staff suffer diseases, is that many go to hospital with diseases!  It is no wonder so many places provide the squirt out gel to disinfect the hands.  Some dispensers are on the wall while others are on the bench.  One time, I really did not know what I was doing (which is probably a lot of times really) and a pile of gel ended up on the floor.  I looked around and disappeared pretty quick.  I think it needed one of those signs that said “Slippery floor.”
I was allergic to an anti-biotic tablet I was taking.  I would get sick all day.  I was taking a few tablets at the time, but I had my suspicions of which one it was.  How to test my theory?  There was only one way.  I figured, if I took only this tablet and had a ½, I would be sick for ½ as long.  It turned out I was sick and only for half as long.  I knew then that was the culprit, and took an alternative.
One time when I got the flu really badly, I was sitting opposite a fella that had the flu big time.  I was on a trip and could not avoid the contact.  I got where I was going, and spent the next few days in bed as sick as a dog (I really do not know why we say that, but a dog must have been really crook one time).  That is a great way to spend a holiday – NOT.
It seems the elderly and really young are particularly susceptible.  No one can live as an island, but there are definitely certain times, when it is more dangerous to go out, then others.  At most times it is good to give – but this is not one of those times.
