Fleight

I’ll admit it.  I have never been a real good flyer.  I am happiest when the flight has landed and come to a stop.  Merril and I are going to Melbourne.  She chose to inform me in the Terminal that she hates flying.  Myself, I reckon they could come up with a better name than “terminal” for a start.   I did not need to know that Merril is not a good flyer.  I have my own problems.  Merril was supposed to be my rock. I guess that was a pipe dream.  Still, sharing something is good though in this instance not sharing would have been better.  For some people flying is no biggy.  They fly all the time.  Not me.  This is special.  The sort of special I can do without.
Don’t get me wrong.  We are so looking forward to Melbourne.  Though for someone who does not like heights I do wonder why I chose a window seat.  I can see the land.  The landscape is laid out below me.  A long, long, long way below me.  It is ok now.  I have closed the shutter.  I think the person in front of me should do the same.
It did not help that the flight attendant apologised for the delay in boarding due to an engineering issue.  Turns out that the engineering issue was with one of the seats.  But I did not need to know there was an issue at all.   Once I did know though, my imagination ran riot.  They could have been having trouble finding an engine for all I knew.  I am not given to worry but I really hope they factored in enough fuel for the journey.  We may as well not make it by kilometres, as “almost” make it.
The pilot came over the intercom and said there was likely to be some turbulence.  I am as bunkered down as I can be.  Really that means having the seat belt on and holding on for a few hours.  I am not interested in using any of the available facilities on board.  Except the food and drink they bring around. But so much has changed since I last caught a plane.  It looks like the stewardess is using one of them new fangled devices.  A computer I think they call it.
We pay for everything individually now.  If we do not want it, it does not cost.   Our seat is one row behind the “priority” seating.  To the row in front they pay for the privilege of being able to disembark fairly quickly.  We do not need to pay, but one row does not seem to make a lot difference.  Though until it happens, I do not really know.  Perhaps we will get off tomorrow rather than today.
We bought our tickets on line.  We were able to do heaps that way.  We saw the weight of luggage we were allowed to carry without incurring extra cost.  One of our carry-on bags was a challenge.  We are allowed 7kgs.  At the airport it weighed more than it did at home.    Merril decided she could carry a lot of it on her person.  Just because she looked like some sort of overloaded courier does not matter.  Our luggage was under the weight.
We are about mid-flight right now.  It is very white if I look out the window in front.  I think it is cloud.  I just hope there is nothing coming at us from the other way.  I think landing will be a good thing.
