It is not often I write something two times in a row based on the email from James Clear.  But this time I am, as something he said reminded me of something I have seen so often, and experienced for myself.  “"Your first task is to find what feels effortless to you.  Your second task is to put maximum effort into it."
I have experienced that so clearly.
Right now I am involved in a couple of things.  Some feels totally effortless and the other I would rather not do, and cannot wait for someone else who has a passion for such things to do it.
I set up our church and greet people as they arrive.  Both tasks it is like I was born for.  I often get told it is great what I do in setting up the place.  I really appreciate that, but honestly I love it.  I love making a place look good, and if others are happy, I am happy.  I know the individual needs of people and do all I can to accommodate the needs.  For example, some people need a chair that I just call “other” chairs.  They have arm rests and are very comfortable.
We are not the sort of place that insists on “our chair,” but if I expect the person I put out the chair and put something on it so people gravitate to other spots.  No big deal, but it matters to those who are perhaps older or had an operation that makes such a chair a comfort in recovery.
As for greeting people, I endeavour to let others know they are very welcome and look out for them.  It is important to me that visitors do not feel isolated.  I have the greatest admiration for new people, as I think it is hard going to a new place and so important to feel welcomed and embraced.
As I say for me it is not a biggy because it feels effortless.  I have been told “don’t be a martyr.” It is the last thing I feel like, as it is something I thrive on.
On the other hand, I have seen others not suited to the task, and they could not look more tired or disengaged.  To me that is a clear sign to find what else rings their bell and endeavour to find a comfortable fit.
I guess the above is why the words of James Clear rang like a bell for me.  What I want for everyone is to find the right place.  Some things I do not like to do, but others really like to do it and I am glad they do.  I feel it is my role to help others find their place doing what we all need but not all necessarily like to do.   Something that feels effortless and maximised.
