Feels Like

Here we are in unseasonably cold weather. It seems to me to be hard to pick right now. For a while it is cold as and then it is really hot. It is supposed to be warm. We chose to go on holidays at this time for various reasons but one of them is warmth.
Yet when I left for holidays, I was wearng a jumper. Every day I needed it until the last two. They were really hot. In fact when it came time to leave and and I packed it I thought “I cannot believe I needed this.” It was like any movement and the perspiration poured off us. It is our custom to try to make a place look better when we leave then what we found it. We did this again and although not much was really needed the perspiration poured off us as we did it.
I call it perspiration and not sweat because of a young fella at table tennis. As most know the old saying goes “women don’t sweat, they perspire.” Three of us together and Merril started to say that. She only got as far as “women don’t sweat” and the young fella said, “they would if they put in the effort.”
We looked at him in disbelief. He was either very brave or very foolish. We all had a good laugh about that at the time and “they would if they put in the effort” has become a phrase Merril and I use knowing exactly what was being alluded to. Every time without fail it causes mirth.
Not only is today unseasonably cool but it is grossly windy. The temperature may be one thing, but it is the “feels like” temperature that is the biggest influence here. We have deliberately grown stuff to keep the sun away from where we sit and chat. Arriving home in the car is like arriving at an oasis. The temperature may still be hot but it as cool as it can be where we are.
Todays “feels like” temperature is likely to be much lower than the official temperature which is cool to start with. In fact this wind would play havoc with my hair if I had more.
The bees are not likely to emerge for a while. It needs to be 18 degrees for the native stingless bees we have to come out. We have discovered that is really the way it is. When it is cooler, we look at the hive and there is no activity visible. But as it warms up, we see the bees at the entrance of their hive and then once it is 18 degrees or over, they take off for their days work.
I must admit I am enjoying it being a little cooler. The only problem is I do not know how to prepare. Right now, it should be hot but the way it is right now is jumper weather. It is no doubt a first world problem, but it is something I am not used to.
