Feelings

Click hereFeelings can be such fickle things.  I said something at one point I really felt went over like a led balloon.  Someone told me later that was the best they had ever heard.  Go figure.  In my head it was a disaster, and in his it was a success.
I know I have my share of rah, rah and go get em moments.  I am all inspired.  I know what I need to do and intend doing it.  The trouble for me is, that feeling passes and doing it is just plain hard work.  In one sense it would be easier not to do it.
They say “never doubt in the dark what you knew in the light.”  Can we scrub that saying out of existence please?  Surely what I feel is right.  I don’t feel like it, so not doing it is right isn’t it?
The thing for me is, I have never seen character development based on a whim.  Those that go with their feelings only seem to be losers with a capital l.  That seems a little harsh.  Especially when I am one of their ranks from time to time.
It can be beaten.  Looking at inspiring people helps.  They all know a sloth of despond.  Yet they all got through it.  They knew what they wanted and went for it.  They were not going to let a little thing like contrary feelings stop them.  The view from the other side is worth it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sigh.  The fact that I don’t like it, does not mean it is not true though.  I have seen people undo so much.  What took years to build is undone on a whim.  I have done that too.  It seems the best thing I can do if I am not progressing is to stay still and not go backwards.  When I am forwarding a stream what I step on can be stumbling blocks or steppingstones.
I have never regretted doing what I had to do despite my feelings.  I have regretted not doing it though.  It seems that whenever I shrink back, I always face that situation again.  It may look different and the circumstances can be totally different, but what I face is the same.  My current thinking is I may as well deal with it now, as if I don’t I will have to deal with it in the future.  Besides, dealing with it now opens up heaps of possibilities.
I know my feelings are fickle.  The best I can do is go for it.  I want to be a winner not because of circumstances but despite circumstances.
