Feeding Time

Ok the birds have been fed.
It is a part of my routine of a morning to sit here typing.  Invariably there is one bird that flies up to near where I am sitting (on the other side of the screen) and lets me know it is time for food.
He is very patient but when he sees me move he looks longingly inside to see what I am up to.  Hoping that I am going to his food and getting it out.  When he knows that is what I am doing he flies up into a tree and waits for me to emerge.
When I do he flies down while I am dishing out the food and wanders around the yard until I disappear.  The he goes straight for the food.  I say he because we have determined it is a he.  His mate comes later.
They are funny though.  They like to store food for later on.  It is comical watching them take some food and put it under some leaves.  For the life of me I cannot understand why other birds do not smell it and devour it.  Yet they don’t seem to.  Once under leaves (and I can only say “loose” the food is safe for them to consume at a later time.
I do not mind that as the birds tend to think of this as their yard.  I had a laugh.  Merril was driving by someone close to our place and saw the birds that frequent our place.  She called out “oy!” to them.  There was a guy nearby in his yard and it was like he thought he was being summoned.  So both the birds and he looked up.
The Lorikeets patiently await their food.  There are a multitude of them.  We call them Lory.  Hardly original but any lorikeets we see in the yard are called Lory.  Just like all the Indian Minors have one name.  We cannot tell them apart.  The Australian minors are a “gang” rather than a flock.  As a group they are tough but individually they seem to be wimps.
But the Lorikeets squabble a bit.  By do they make a racket when they do.  They settle don though.
I enjoy watching their antics.  Merril and I were married here and someone gifted us a Grevillea.  While we were saying our vows a Little Wattle Bird visited the grevillea.  Birds have been visiting ever since.
