Famous

It seems if it is what I were after I have left my run a bit late.  I was asking myself what makes a person famous?  There were some things listed that while the emphasis has always been there, they are more doable now or brand new.  Things like branding and opening a twitter account.
Still there are things listed and I see them.  Talent of course but it is (rightly in my mind) seen as not enough.  Many are full of talent but go nowhere.  It is talent and work or practice, practice, practice.
I am reading a book about a disadvantaged community in the US.  The dream of most is to eave the community.  There are seen to be two ways to do it.  One is to shine academically and the other is thorough being very good at sport.  Both involve work.  Potential is one thing.  Achievement is another.  When someone does a remarkable thing, it is not often it is a fluke but more often that they have practiced for that scenario.  Top athletes often stay behind after the practice session is over and put in more time honing their craft.  They often become the best of the best.  Talent gets someone somewhere but work keeps them there.
Another way to become famous that is listed, and I agree with, is to invent a unique solution to a problem.  A guy called Ignaz Semmelweis (a Hungarian doctor) is known as the father of hand washing.  It seems so simple but that one step has stopped the spread of many diseases.  Isolation is a necessary inconvenience.  Jews in Biblical times were doing it. Nothing works as well as removing the infection problem from an area.  One of the islands near where I was from was a leper colony.  I reckon if a person needs to isolate that was a beautiful place to do it.
Whether a person has much talent or invents something unique and useful (which for me was the black plastic watering system.  I remember someone saying that “rightly so” if they got rich patenting that idea as it is a goodie I reckon) they stand out.
The guy who discovered a cure for stomach ulcers stood out.  He could find no one who believed anti biotics cured stomach ulcers so he gave them to himself and then took his own cure and it worked.  Stomach ulcers are now virtually a thing of the past in the western world.  He stood out.  For his sake I am glad it worked. He and another won the Nobel prize for medicine in 2005.
I have no desire to be famous.  Perhaps it is not good to be infamous though (though one movie I saw said infamous was defined by meaning being “in” and “famous” but I don’t think so.
I don’t mind making someone else famous though.  I remember in the Narnia books Aslan the lion outlining a plan and he said “us lions.”  The other lions were chuffed and commented how he had said “us lions.”  They were happy to be identified with him.
That’s me.  I am happy to be identified with someone famous for a good reason.  I don’t want or need the limelight.  I am happy to bask in someone else’s though.
