Familiar

I like to watch things and listen to stuff.  All sorts of stuff.  Sometimes I hear stuff that stops me in my tracks and I give it sone time in thought.
One such thing was said recently.  I heard a guy say the greatest enemy of passion is familiarity.  He sites a car as an example.  He said (and I have found this) that when I get another vehicle I initially tend to dot over it.  It is cleaned.  It is polished.  It remains free from mess.  Yet 8 months later it has become something to get me from a to b.
There are all sorts of situations where I have found such things can happen.  It is in my best interests to keep something fresh and different.  I know that I do not loose passion, but I know I can become familiar with something.
One of the reasons I enjoyed my job the way I did is because it changed regularly.  My title remained the same, but I found the job itself evolved.  I was not doing the same thing year after year.   What I did changed enough to keep me interested.
It did not only change, but what I had done served as a building block.  The next task may have been harder or more complex but it interested me.
So for me I did not become familiar with the job.  Certainly I knew what to do, but change kept it from becoming familiar to me, and kept me from losing my passion.
For me passion needs to be guarded closely.  It is something I never want to lose.  I reckon lose it - and I lose motivation.  I am not interested in going through the routine.  Even if sometimes passion means that road needs to be travelled as it is the shortest distance to what I am going for.
I know I need to keep what I do interesting and inspiring.  Maybe one day I will move on.  Until then though, what is at hand needs continual exploring.
