Faith Based

If I hop on a plane, my expectation is that it will take off, fly, and land successfully, to get me to my destination.  When I hop in a car it is in the belief I will get to where I am going.  Even going to work or school I anticipate a certain outcome.
The evidence suggests I will achieve my aim, but there is no guarantee.  Just because the probability of something is high, does not make it a given.
It is sad but true, that things don’t always turn out the way we plan.  Recently there was a plane crash in Cuba.  There are traffic accidents regularly.  I was on a bus that needed to divert around an accident.  The guy in the car involved had his Christmas presents in the back of the car.  No doubt what happened was not on his agenda. A friend of mines parents were involved in a serious car accident.  The person in the other car wanted to take their on life.  That is unforeseen.
As someone said to me “life is what happens when you are planning other things.”  I think it is great that we are planning other things, but I need to remember that things happen – things I did not plan.  I was not planning for a stroke but it happened. The choice remains mine as to whether I give up with a “woe is me” outlook or make the best of what I have.  I must admit I am thankful.  It could have been so much worse.
Of course, then there is that thing that we don’t like to talk about, but that will happen to all of us.  What happens then, someone who claims to know has told us.  I can choose to believe him based on the evidence, but ultimately, like so much of what I do, it is a faith based thing.
