Facade

I was listening to an interview with a guy I consider one of my favourite singer song writers.  He sang a song of his I love which include the words, “I don’t know why it’s so hard to admit it, but being honest is the only way to fix it.”
That resonates incredibly with me.  I can go too far one way in being honest with myself in that I put myself down big time.  Then I go too far the other way with people but making out there is nothing to look at here and I have it all together.
What gets me is façade.  There is a time and a place for everything it seems but it it is made out to be never the time or place to admit I am vulnerable.  What I see as a guy is it is like it is particularly true for us.
I am not inclined to generalize but it does seem to be much easier for the ladies to express their feelings than the guys.  I am an extrovert in so many ways, yet when it comes to expressing the way I really feel it is so much easier to be seen as the “strong silent type.”
To me that can be a good thing and it can be right when it comes to dealing with many situations.  Yet I question if it is right in the face of a personal crisis.  A time when expressing my feelings is the means to unburden my feelings.
I have forgotten who it was but someone recently expressed it so well I reckon.  I can be like a light on one of those old-fashioned string of Christmas lights.  Once upon a tie if one light did not work for whatever reason all the lights refused to work.  I had to get the one light working to get all those beyond it working too.
Seems to me it is too easy to accept a light is not working without realizing the flow on effect it has in my life.  So often for me dealing with an issue I have trouble facing is the key to dealing with other issues that have become a problem as a result.
For sure I have not found that to be easy.  But for sure too I have found it to be liberating.
