Facade

10/8/2020

I wrote recently about celebrations.  I reckon one of my middle names should be “Party”.  My first name means rock, and my second name means stern faced.  Then my last name means flower.  Talk about enigma.  If I have trouble understanding me, what chance does anyone else have?
At times though, there are storms raging in me.  I may walk on water, but I am good at sinking too.  I have that down to a fine art.  I could run a course  “sinking 101.”  Thankfully, there is someone there to catch me.
I am big on not pretending.  I think it is because I have done a bit of it in my time.  The façade can look real pretty.  I may look like I have it all together.  But sometimes that is as good as it gets.  Rooms need work.  Some rooms can be like they have had a make-over, but others still need doing.
In Westerns people ride into town and there appears to be a bank and a boarding house.  Yet a look on the other side reveals they are fronts to make me think there is a bank and boarding house.
While in the US I went to Universal Studios.  There was a lot of stuff there for creating a pretend world.  I will never forget the plane they had set up for creating plane movies.  These days a lot is done in front of green screens, and worlds are painted around the actors.  The scene in Lord of the Rings on the ledge was like that.  Though knowing it is not real, does not make me not want them to get away from the edge of the ledge.  That really has nothing to do with anything, but I should be getting out of my chair and saying “hello.  My name is Peter and I don’t like heights.”
The English built a facade in World War Two to deceive the Germans.  They made it look like a camp was in a certain place, to make the Germans think the invasion would occur some place different to what it did.
One of my pet dislikes is people who pretend to know everything.  No one does.  There may be a known answer, but I can be in the dark.  Three words can be hard to say.  “I don’t know.”  It is four words, if don’t becomes do not.  A façade can be up.  Someone may know the answer, but it is not me.  It is probably why I like the words of a song that says, “no one of us, has got it all together, but all of us together got it all.”
I think the problem with life facades is the deception.  It is appearing to be what I am not.  To me there is a time and a place for building something that is what I aspire to be, but living a lie is a downer, and besides, it can be too hard to remember who I told what.
I say it often that no help can be given where no need for help is acknowledged.  It would not come as news to anyone that I need help.  I know others do too.  I read this morning marines always dig a foxhole for two in case of battle.
I may appear to be all together, but a closer look shows there is work to be done.
