Expect the Unexpected

Well I was not expecting that.
Ok, so last night was given over to Sate of Origin.  Merril and I got together at N3C to watch the game on the big screen.  I had asked people to let me know if they were coming so I would know how many pizza’s to order. We ended up ordering 15.  It was good as we had gone to Domino’s during the day and ordered and paid for them then.
We were fortunate in that some did not turn up but others did.  I did not do a count but I had one person tell me 15 were coming, then it was 16 and then it was 17. Added to that I knew of another 8 that had said they would be there.  As I say. some did not come but others unexpected did.
Something that really surprised me was Merril and I had gotten a number of games together for those who “were not into it.”  They remained unused. Except for one miniature table soccer game we played before the tv game. It was unbelievable fun.  I admit the game got airborne at times to encourage to the ball into the goals.
Some had come so prepared with chairs and warm covers to watch the game. For years we often had people at our place to watch games, and though always enjoyable I have never seen that many gather to watch a game.
And it turned out so different to what I expected.  Turned out it was like “oh me of little faith.” Queensland made its first ball handling error near the end of the game.  They played great relentless footy.  At half time they were up 20 nil.  But remembering the last game I still had concerns. We were up by that many last time, and fell across the line.  I reckon 10 minutes more and we would have lost last time. 
But this time we had plugged up the holes and NSW looked to know they had to do something special to win.  The game in the second half was an arm wrestle.  NSW won the half but we won the game – and hence the series.
We all had a good time. Even the sole NSW supporter - as the banter was fun and good natured.  He was not a real Origin person but had come for the get together – dressed (very provocatively I might add) in his NSW shirt.  I did offer him tissues at half time be he said he was waiting for ¾ time.  Go figure.
Different but fun.
