Essentials

It seems to me that if ever I needed my finger on the pulse of things, it is now.
I say that because so much seems to be happening.  There are a multitude of seemingly worthwhile causes to get involved in.  I really do not want to embrace something and find it is opposite what I want for myself and others.
Reminds me of the guy on the ladder of success, who reached the top only to find the ladder was against the wrong wall.  I do find it better to do something rather than nothing though.  I have found it easier to change direction than to get started.
I do agree with something I read yesterday apparently said by someone called “Richard Baxter.” “In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things love.  For years I have been fond of saying “some things matter, many don’t.”
One of the chief problems I have is when others treat something like it is essential to the life of all, when really it is a non-essential thing.  Opinions on it may be strong but if I were to die without knowing or embracing it, it would make no difference to me really.
I agree that love must be my motivation always.  To me love is an essential.  Sure my life can fail to exhibit it, but it is guaranteed my life and the life of others will be the poorer for it’s absence.
With love as my motivation I think to love God, love people and love life are essential.  Why I think loving God is essential is that if I think he created me, it is in my best interests to live as he would have me live.  Loving people matters to me.  Especial to defend the defenseless.  It seems so often to me people are pawns.  Leaders care more for their own agenda’s than the people affected by their agenda’s.   I reckon loving life is essential too because if something does not work, I know I want nothing to do with it.  So often it seems a countenance reflects where someone is at.
Whether things are easy or hard what I hold to needs to work for me.
