Equipment

It seems that no matter what the activity, the right equipment is needed.
I am thinking of those people that climb vertical cliffs.  Ok I’ll admit it.  I am a total wimp when it comes to heights.  A measure of how bad I’ve got it, is that when I see something on tv or a movie, I often turn away, or find it really hard to watch.  When it was suggested we go to Cliff Hanger, I thought of other things to do.  The movie Skyscraper looks scary to me.
I definitely cannot talk the talk when it comes to rock climbing.  To say it is the last thing I would do may be a bit of an overstatement.  But it sure would be close to the last thing I would do.  I see them with ropes and clips and hammers and harnesses.  It is good that safety is important.  I guess if the attrition rate was too high, no one would be doing it.  I wouldn’t choose to do it anyway, but there are others that do.
It is probably better to think about something I can relate to.  In Table Tennis I need a table, bat, ball, and net.  I also need to be dressed right.  It really does not help me much, but I look the part.
In my work I was the Finance Officer.  For that role, I needed to understand and create financial statements.  I also needed to create understandable spreadsheets.  I put in formulas to make it easier for myself.  I also needed to be able to explain to my boss what we were looking at, and the implications.  I was the numbers person.  It was really all the numbers associated with our finances.  It included the number of people doing the transactions, and the numbers using our equipment over all our campuses.  Without that, and being able to do that, I could not have done my job.
There are other things I do that really are my equipment.  I am told I am a good organizer.  It is scary, but I get off bringing order to stuff.  I like to have the end user in mind.  I have seen too often, something embraced that looked desirable, only to be the guinea pig to make it work properly.  I also play the piano.  That might be overstating it.  I manage to bluff my way through.
I see all this stuff as equipment.  I have used it, and can impart a certain amount to others. Goodness knows where it is all going now, but it is there.  It is nice to have something to call on when needed.
